2017 Events:

Hog Butchering Day – January 9 / Experience early American butchering and food preservation. (Hog is killed prior to opening. Public may witness the processing of the pig, but not the death of the animal.)

*Children’s Day on the Farm – March 25 / Learn what life was like for rural children in the 18th and 19th centuries through crafts, games, pony rides, storytelling and visiting farm animals.

Sheep Shearing Day – April 8 / Discover the steps involved in turning a sheep’s fleeces into cloth: shearing, cleaning, carding, spinning, weaving, and dyeing. See our rare Gulf Coast sheep and meet the spring lambs.

*Liberty or Death – May 20 & 21 / The unique event features reenactments of three major battles fought in South Carolina- King’s Mountain, Camden and Eutaw Springs. These battles represent both Patriot and British victories. Over the two day event visitors will see cannons, mounted cavalry, uniformed British and American soldiers and militiamen take the field. Other activities include cannon and musket firing demonstrations, kids’ military drill, battlefield tours, special presentation, and hands on activities.

Independence Day Celebration at Hightower Hall – July 4 / Celebrate Independence and learn about July 4th festivities enjoyed by early 19th century through militia drills, toasts, dancing, and games.

*Battle of Huck’s Defeat Revolutionary War Reenactment – July 15 & 16 / Relive the Revolutionary War in the Carolina Backcountry with camp life demonstrations, music, firearms presentations, theatrical performances, and battle reenactments.

By the Sweat of Our Brows – September 9 / Powerful theatrical and musical performances and hands-on activities chronicle the African-American journey from enslavement to today.

Piedmont Pottery Festival – September 23 / Celebrate the Piedmont’s pottery heritage as you shop for Southern pottery, see demonstrations and hear informative speakers.

*Spirits and Stories – October 21 / Join in good old-fashioned family fun! Enjoy hands-on activities, wagon rides, music, and ghost stories. Take a candlelight tour where costumed interpreters tell stories about Brattonsville’s past.

*Christmas Candlelight Tours – December 2 & 9, 2017 / A Southern-style Backcountry Christmas comes to life during Historic Brattonsville’s annual Christmas Candlelight Tours.  Through candlelit vignettes, costumed interpreters will recreate Christmas of the backcountry settlers in the 18th and 19th centuries.  You will learn of old and new Christmas traditions.  In addition to the candlelight tours, children of all ages will enjoy period hands-on activities and visits with Father Christmas. You may relax around the campfire and enjoy musical entertainment, too.
