In 1983, the Friends of Historic Brattonsville was formed to build community support and an interest in the restoration of Historic Brattonsville. Since that time, the organization has grown to become an important nonprofit partner with the York County Historical Commission. Over the years, Friends has played an important role not only in preserving the structures of Historic Brattonsville, but also in assisting with educational and interpretive programs, formulating policy, and fundraising to help finance capital improvements as well as expand the acquisitions of the site.*

Today, Friends’ volunteer efforts are varied and filtered throughout many areas on and off site. Their main fundraising efforts focus on running concessions for several large events held on site during the calendar year. In the spring, they also host an appreciation picnic honoring volunteers.

Those interested in volunteering at Historic Brattonsville are always welcome to Friends, and many new opportunities for involvement are planned in the near future! Please feel free to contact us any time.

Excerpt from Culture and Heritage Museums website – “Historic Brattonsville presents the history of the Scots-Irish or Ulster-Scots in the South Carolina upcountry largely through preserving and interpreting the story of the Bratton family. Featuring more than 30 historic structures from the 1760s to the late 19th century, the site provides visitors with an opportunity to see the evolution of Southern culture and architecture in the South Carolina Piedmont.”
